Magnetic Crawler Welding Carriage — CX Series

Magnetic-wheel drive grips steel directly — no track for straight runs, or an optional light track for circumferential welds. Works on pipes and curved steel from Ø108 mm outer diameter, inner diameter from Ø700 mm.

Also known as: magnetic welding carriage, magnetic crawler welding machine, welding crawler, welding robot carriage.

Sticks to Steel. Goes Anywhere.

Magnetic wheels grip carbon steel directly — welds pipes and shells from Ø108 mm to Ø700 mm on plate from 3 mm. Add the optional track for larger diameters and the anti-drift fixture to keep the torch locked on the seam.

  • Carbon steel Ø108–700 mm, plate ≥ 3 mm
  • Optional track extends the working range to larger diameters
  • Optional universal castor wheels for fast repositioning
  • Welds inner and outer fillet seams on tanks and shells
  • Straight-swing and angle-swing versions; anti-drift fixture available

FAQ

Questions Engineers Ask About This Machine

What pipe diameter can the CX magnetic crawler weld?
Outer diameter from Ø108 mm upward, and inner-shell welding from Ø700 mm. Larger diameters are covered by adding the optional magnetic track. Minimum suction thickness is 3 mm of magnetically permeable material — the wheels need bare steel, with no insulation or coating between magnet and workpiece.
How does it stay on the seam line around a pipe?
The magnetic wheels grip the curved surface directly, so the carriage walks the circumference without a jig or clamp. For long seams where drift would matter, add the anti-drift fixture, which keeps the torch locked on the seam line for the full circle. Penetration then stays consistent instead of changing between flat, vertical and overhead positions.
Do the magnets lose strength from welding heat?
No. The permanent high-temperature magnets hold full strength below 580 °C, so normal welding heat does not reduce adhesion. Because the wheels grip magnetically there are no wearing friction parts on the travel path, unlike a belt or friction-wheel drive.
Is this a trackless machine?
The standard configuration is trackless (the "W" in the model code), which is what makes positioning so quick on pipes and shells. The optional magnetic track is added when you need longer travel or larger diameters, and universal castor wheels can be fitted for fast repositioning between joints.
Why is the controller separate from the carriage?
The Gen-III controller is a split type with a connection cable, so you can stand where you can actually watch the arc on complex work such as inside a shell — instead of bending around the machine. It also carries a 7-pin aviation socket for the optional intermittent welding module.
